Remind your employees that safety is essential in everything they do. As part of your National Safety Month observations, reward workers for practicing safety. One morning in June, stand near the entrance of the parking lot. As employees drive in, give each one a “Proud To Be A Safe Worker” or “Safety Starts With Me” Acrylic Key Ring. You can also pass out orange juice or whole-wheat bagels to give them a healthy breakfast.
Key Concept
Remind your employees that safety is essential in everything they do. As part of your National Safety Month observations, reward workers for practicing safety. One morning in June, stand near the entrance of the parking lot. As employees drive in, give each one a “Proud To Be A Safe Worker” or “Safety Starts With Me” Acrylic Key Ring. You can also pass out orange juice or whole-wheat bagels to give them a healthy breakfast.
“Role” With It
Seek out volunteers to participate in some workplace safety skits. Have them act out different scenarios with the wrong and right way to perform tasks. Make “lifting heavy objects” a topic for one of the performances. Put a lighthearted twist on it by having the actors pick up “Don’t Twist Your Back—Lift Safely!” Twizzlers. At the end, provide Twizzlers to the audience along with “Life Is Sweet When You Play It Safe” Candy Packs.
The Proper Equipment
Ensure that workers have the necessary items to stay safe on the job. Also provide them with tools to practice safety when they’re out in the world. At a meeting in June, go over the workplace materials that every employee should use. Then read a list of safety-related supplies that they should have when off the job. On the list include items in the “Make Zero Accidents Your Goal” Travel First Aid Kit, such as Antibacterial Ointment and First Aid Burn Cream. Or suggest the Emergency Preparedness Guide and Compass Carabiner Keychain from the Emergency Survival Kit. Be sure to pass out the Kit that includes the items you reference.
Less Is More
During June, give those who have been accident free for the past year a token of your appreciation. At the conclusion of one work day, gather all employees and present those without accidents “Safety Starts With Me” Breakaway Lanyards. Thank them for contributing to the success of your company. Give everyone else “Make Zero Accidents Your Goal” Breakaway Lanyards and encourage them to be accident free in the coming year.
On The Move
Don’t let safety escape the consciousness of your employees when they leave work. Give them gifts that encourage staying safe everywhere they may be. At the end of one day in June, set up a table near the building exit and hand out “Take Safety Wherever You Go” Auto Travel Kits and Hand-Squeeze Flashlights . Don’t forget to remind all employees to drive carefully and wear their seatbelts!
Great Lengths
You can never go too far to let workers know how necessary it is to include safety in every task. Use “Going The Distance For Safety” as your theme for this year’s safety month. In keeping with this idea, order “Go the Extra Mile for Safety” Pedometers and “Measure Safety In All You Do” Tape Measures And Lights as incentives for workers.
Make A Difference
Tie the well-being of your community into plans for National Safety Month. Hold a safety meeting on June 1 and, before adjourning, announce that your company or organization is collecting non-perishable food items to donate to the local food bank. Then pass out “Make Zero Accidents Your Goal” Lunch Bags to employees. Ask them to fill up the bags with food donations. When the bags are full, they can unload the food into a large donation box in your office. Give a raffle ticket to each employee who fills up a lunch bag. At the end of the month, hold a drawing for items from the “Make Zero Accidents Your Goal” Raffle Pack.
